Expired Claim, Still Eligible for EUC
My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: Colorado

My claim expired last month and Colorado just became eligible for the 2nd round of Extended Unemployment Claims. Am I eligible? The unemployment customer service line is always busy, can't contact them to ask.

    Thank You

There is no possible way anyone here can know whether you are eligible or not.

You need to check with you state's unemployment site:

Re: Expired Claim, Still Eligible for EUC
Why is it impossible to believe that somebody would know? The law is the same on the Extended Unemployment Compensation for the whole USA. Probably thousands of people are in the same situation as me.

Also, why would you go to the trouble of writing a negative unhelpful reply, maybe somebody out there has some experience. If you don't have anything helpful to add don't bother replying.

I have checked Colorado's website, their information seems to say yes, but I haven't got the notice that they promise. That's why I searched the internet and took the time to register for this site and post a question. That seems like why a forum would be here to help find answers you can't find through normal channels.

24 people have viewed this post so it seems like the answer is something others besides my self would be interested in.

    Thank you

In Calif some of us did not wait to get a notice, we filed online anyway. You have to file online, so why wait to get a letter telling you to file online? It could take them a long time to get a notice out to you.

Every situation is different. You gave us no information whatsoever to go by. How can we even guess whether someone would be eligible with no information?

The number of people who view the post does not reflect anything regarding the availability of answers.

Re: Expired Claim, Still Eligible for EUC
Possibly I did not state my question clearly enough. It is:

Is somebody eligible for Extended Unemployment Compensation after their initial claim has expired (claim expires after one year)

The Colorado Unemployment Office is totally overwhelmed by the increase in joblessness. Their customer service line is busy anytime it is open. (There is a busy signal that starts before the line opens and continues the rest of the day. Obviously, thousands of people call at opening, and only a fraction get put into the wait queue)

So you can see that it would be helpful to find out this fact about the legislation that was passed last summer.

It would be infinitely easier just to call the office and solve the problem (if that was possible) than to register for this forum and post questions.

I don't know if there is a perception that somebody who posts here is either too lazy or too stupid to take the most basic actions to solve their problem, but I would say for the most part you would be incorrect. Remember, what goes around comes around, and you will find yourself trying to solve a problem and have to deal with people who will view you as a lazy or stupid person that just needs to be put down instead of helped.

    Maybe.

We do not know the circumstances involved in your claim. We do not know how long ago your claim expired. We do not know ANYTHING about your situation except that your claim is expired.

You are demanding a yes or no answer to a question that does not have a yes or no answer.

The best way to find out if you qualify is not to ask perfect strangers to evaluate your chances based on no information whatsoever, but to apply. If you do not qualify, you'll be told by the UI commission. There is no penalty for applying when you do not qualify, so the worst that can happen is that they say no. In which case you are no worse off than if you didn't file at all.

Re: Expired Claim, Still Eligible for EUC
Who may qualify for EUC payments?
    FROM THE COLORADO UNEMPLOYMENT SITE:

To be eligible for EUC payments, you must:

Have exhausted available benefits on a current UI claim or have a claim that expired on or after May 5, 2007.
Not be eligible for a new, regular UI claim in Colorado (see “What are the Requirements for eligibility on a new, regular UI claim in Colorado instead of EUC?”).
Be currently unemployed or working less than 32 hours per week.
NOTE: If you are working less than 32 hours per week, your weekly gross earnings must be less than the WBA on your regular UI claim and you must report all hours worked and wages expected each week.

Not be able to collect regular UI benefits in any other state or U.S. territory or in Canada.
Be able to work, available for work, and actively seeking work

Okay! I have the same question to ask, and hopefully you might have a better understanding what this person orginally was asking. Ready? Here it goes

I too have been receiving unemployment benefits, but here in California. Are you going to make a comment about California again?.....Anyway... I received my normal 26 weeks of benefits, and I was approved for the emergency unemployment extension, however I still have money left in my first extension, but my orginal unemployment claim that I filed a year ago last March-08 just expired.

Are you following me so far? Unemployment claims are valid for one year....which is for 52 weeks, but with the added extensions it goes for 79 weeks. Everybody's claim will expire after a year.

So in other words, if a person is receiving emergency unemployment extensions and their orginal claim expires....do you have to file for a new regular claim again? Also if a person has not worked for over a year and not have enough earnings.....how can they file for a new claim they would not qualify for a new claim....

I know you are going to say check your unemployment office. If I knew the answer I wouldn't be checking other internet websites. It is impossible to speak to anybody, also my question that I am asking is not on the unemployment website.

Do you now understand the question?
