Underage Possesion
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Virginia, VA
Me and a couple friends were at another friends house a couple weeks ago. The cops busted it and gave all the people over 18 underage possession of alchol charges. We all have the same court date as well. I am wondering what my punishment will be. I have no other charges, not even a speeding ticket. I honestly can't afford to lose my license (what I've heard might happen) because of my job, school, ect. Any help would be much appreciated.
Also I have been accepted into several colleges. Will this effect it at all?
Thanks

Re: Underage Possesion
You can expect a fine and a driver's license suspension. The specific penalty will depend upon the exact charge - read this brochure (PDF). If you "can't afford" to lose your license, I suggest consulting a lawyer.

Re: Underage Possesion
What could my "punishmen" be if I got a lawyer? Also I heard the fine could be replaced with community service hours? If my license does get taken I heard there is retrictions that can be applied when I can drive. Such as employment, school, or family reasons. I currently have a job and work, I also have to take my sisters places because both of my parents work.

Re: Underage Possesion
I am sorry about my previous post, some of it doesn't really make sense. I heard there are certian circumstances which you can drive. Such as school, employment, and certian family reasons. I myself have a job, attend school, and must take my sister to certian places because both of my parents work.
On VA's website, it says a $500 or 50 hours of community service. So could I take the community service instead of the fine? (I know I'd have to pay court fee's)
And lastly, is there anyway I can get information about what will happen? Such as calling the court, or the officer? Would that really do anything or make the officer more irritated.
