I-485 After Disorderly Conduct Conviction
Just need some help here. I was involved in a domestic incident with my ex-wife in 2006. I pled guilty to a reduced charge of "disorderly conduct", paid a $250 fine, completed anger management classes, and served one year probation. My sentence of 30 days confinement was all suspended and waived after I completed probation.
I recently applied for adjustment of status (from asylee to permanent resident). I forwarded all of the certified court records on the case with my I-485 application. That has been my only brush with the law ever. I just did my finger prints and is waiting to hear from immigration.
What's the likely outcome I should expect? I live in Minnesota.

If you're asking if the DV incident could affect immigration proceedings, sure it could. Any time you break the laws of your host country you put your immigration status at risk, and risk complicating and causing delay with future immigration proceedings. If you're asking if it's likely, of itself, to prevent permanent residency if you're otherwise fully qualified, and you were completely honest with immigration authorities about the incident, probably not.

Mr. Knowitall
Thanks for all your help. And, I need even more of your wise counsel. Since I submitted my I-485 in March 2009 and did my finger prints just a week later, I have not had my case decided as of yet. I inquired from the immigration after 4 months (the processing time for asylee I-485) they sent me a letter that it would take at least another 90 days after which I should call them back if my case is still not decided. In November of 2009, I did just that after the promised 90 days expired. They then wrote me that it will take another 6 months since they are doing additional review of the case.
Does this delay spell "trouble" or "hope" in light of my misdemeanor disorderly conduct conviction which emanated from an initial Domestic Assualt charge? What do you think? Should I go back to my immigration lawyer to write them an inquiry as to why the delay?
They did not even call me for an interview.
Also, I applied for and was given a "travel document". But I am afraid to travel thinking they are setting me up to deny me reentry upon my return to the U.S. Am I just being paranoid or have reason to be suspicious?
Re: I-485 After Disorderly Conduct Conviction
Delay means they're doing additional screening and review. It's not as nice as a quick "Yes!" but it sure beats a quick "No!"
They don't have to sneak around or set you up if they don't want you in the U.S. - they can deny your petition and tell you to pack your suitcases.

Thanks, man. Much more reassuring. I will keep the forum posted on final result whenever it happens.
