Did you go to court? Charged with the crime? What are the employers reasons, if any, for not hiring you?

Has someone told you this is the reason?

Michigan currently has more than a 12% Unemployment rate. It is hard out there to find anything. I've been looking since November 2007, and prior to 3/19/09 I had a perfectly clear criminal record.

One tip of advice (and I'm being the spelling Nazi): Look at your post, find your typos, sentence structure, usage of "i" instead of "I". "dis" versus "this". I am not trying to sound mean, but those do not look good on a resume or cover letter. Especially in this economy, when people with college degrees are applying for the same jobs.

Again, not to be mean, just being helpful.

Concur with Pandora. Clean up your spelling and grammar, it will help.

It's possible that the Target theft has had an impact - your name may have been entered into a shoplifter database - but it's more likely that it's your age working against you.

Minor labor laws are strict. Employers don't want to deal with them, and right now, they can have their pick of anyone they want. So they're choosing adults with wide open availability who will work any day, any time, including weekends, without restrictions.

    Question for Nicole:

Do you have any prior work experience? In our current economy, it is hard to find a job. Any of your local fast food restaurants are probably best bets right now for a teen.

Cashiering at Meijer, etc., is out - simply because you must be 18+ to handle alcohol beverages.

I know it doesn't help much right now if you need money - but volunteering someplace like Salvation Army will look good on your resume. Or there are the seasonal places like the gardening places.

    Good luck.
