Making Fun of People Online
My question involves defamation in the state of: Online
Hi guys,
I had a question about slandering people online. If I called somebody "fat" or "ugly" and they hurt themselves because of this, Can I get sued? (this is all hypothetical, I havent done it.)
Thanks!

Sued successfully, no. Frivilous suits are filed from time to time, but the defandant can countersue also.
Here is a general example of such suit, wrongful death. What do you think?

Jenny Jones had a similar case filed against her:

NOTE: These case are UNIQUE in legal nature.
Calling a person ugly that cases them to spiral into a depression and hurt themselves or commit suicide is NOT actionable.
Re: Making Fun of People Online
1) Get a better vocabulary. "OMG UR FAT & UGLY!" is sooooooo 1997.
2) If you continually harass someone and they hurt themselves over it, yes, you can be sued. Whether or not they'll prevail is anyone's guess, but given the Lori Drew case, you could find yourself in hot water up to your eyebrows.
Bottom line: if you're worried you're going to be sued for doing something, you probably shouldn't be doing it.
