Shoplifting in Texas
This question is for the state of Tx.
I was caught taking merchandise at my store, the total amount was right under $300, I was given papers by my district manager, and talked to loss prevention on the phone during this time, I payed them back for the losses and damages that very day and received a receipt from my DM. Two weeks later I got a civil demand letter for $350 and I payed that as well the day I got it. Now here is my question, I recently received another letter from palmer & reifler law offices saying that I owe the $300 for losses the store took, even though I payed them back. Is palmer & reifler law offices a collection agency, what is the chances of them taking someone to court? Thanks for your help

Re: Shoplifting in Texas
Two things:
- Check into your states laws as to what the maximum the store can collect from you. Make sure you keep record of the money you paid, cleared check, however you paid it.
- Get a free consultation with a Criminal Attorney.

Re: Shoplifting in Texas
As I have stated though I have payed the store back for the damages, and I also payed the civil demand as well, but since there was not a police investigation at the time, and the police were not contacted during this time, do they have much of a case knowing that I have payed the store back, and paying the civil demand as well??

Re: Shoplifting in Texas
If the LP collected the civil recovery he should have given you a reciept and notified all involved that the matter was taken care of. Sounds like you got yaken for a ride. I have over 7 years in loss preventino and over three years experience as a police officer.
Good luck.
