Shoplifting
My question involves criminal law for the state of: ohio
I was caught shoptlifting in a store a couple days ago. I listened to the wrong group of people and thought i was would try it i have never been in trouble before or anything. I offered to pay for it and they still wanted to press charges which i understand i cant get made at them for that, it was my stupid mistake. I have a court date in a week the value of the item was $34 dollars. I looked online and ohio laws say if the item is under $50 dollars i would pay $50 plus court fee and im being charged with misorderly conduct i also read that i might be able to get it dropped down lower is this true? Also i want this off my record as fast as i can get it off! Is there anything i can do to help that or maybe i miss understood also could i be send to jail? just confused it you could help me that would be great thank you!

Re: Shoplifting
If you want to know what pea bargains are likely in your county, talk to a criminal defense lawyer.
Are you charged only with disorderly conduct? What ORC section? You are how old? this is your first offense?

Re: Shoplifting
Disorderly conduct under state law is a Minor misdemeanor, as you are describing it:
http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/2917.11
The penalty for a MM is a maximum $150.00 fine, no jail time, plus costs, if any.
If this is NOT the proper charge, you may be cited under a Municipal ordinance.
They can elevate the classification up to a Misdemeanor of the 1st degree under Home Rule authority. Until you cite the charge/section etc., it is unknown what the exact penalty is.
Oh are you being charged with theft also? If that is where you get the 50$ court fine, I have no idea where you read that?
