First time shoplifting, $360 in goods
I got caught at Macy's, becaues I stole $360 cloth. They also found a scissors in my purse, which I did use that for cutting off the seriouty bar. I insisted, I didn't attend to do this, that scissors was in my cosmetic bag for years. The policeman came, then I took fingerprint at the station, after they checked I didn't have any record before, then gave me a ticket, with the code# 484A. And I need to attend the court on March 8

Frankly, shoplifting is my habit, very bad habit. But sometime, I am really out of contral. I know this is sick, and might be an excuse for the resposibility. But, I really feel guilty. So I will plead guilty. I think only this can stop me.

I have some questions here, hope you can help me.
    1. with code 484A, that means, they consider this as petty theft, not commerical burglary, right?
    2. on the court, will be the policman againest me or Macy's Store?
    3. What can of punishment I will get
    4. Is it possible, Macy's show the old vedio record to the court, which I was on it. but was not caught. That will make the things worse.
    5. should I have a layer to help me? and how much is the charge.
    6. I am an immigrant, will this effect the green card and citizenship?

help me please, Thank you very much.

I think you got off easy with petty theft, using scissors to remove the tags could have been seen as burglars tool making it commercial burglary. As far as who will testify, the witness to the crime would be the LP from Macy's. Old video is not admissible on this case, you should talk to a lawyer who knows both criminal and immigration law. I'm curious, what country are you from and what would be the penalty there?

    Is it your first offense?

If the prosecutor doesn't change your 484 charge to a more serious one, e.g. 459, for immigration purposes, you are OK even if you are convicted.

If you don't want this to affect your immigration status, you should retain a lawyer.

    Don't do it again.

Since $360 is a lot, what kind of punishment will I get?
