Shoplifting
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Colorado
I am concerned obviously about a recent event of shoplifing. No I don't have an excuse but my reason was because recently my car was broken into i had my id, bank card, and cash and other belongings stolen. I went to a local grocery store to get a few things and realized I didn't have a way to pay and attempted to casually walk out. Nervious as all hell I was approached by the store security guard asking me to please follow him into his office. So I did and immediately confessed to not having any means to pay. Because I didn't have an ID and had only a paper temporany one (without any picture) he had to call the cops. I wasn't arrested but given a summons to court in June. The store security gave me a form for restitution of the store $250.00. I have an idea of worse case scinereo of what could happen and the office stated me being very coperative and not having a record would help my case. I'm looking for some help and what to expect. I know i'll never do it again and was not worth the $25.44.

Re: Shoplifting
Odds are you're looking at probation, fines, and possibly community service. Depending upon your age and local policies, you may qualify for a diversion program or deferral; a local lawyer can advise you as to whether you have any such options available to you.
