Marriage to a F1 Visa Holder
    Hey guys,
I am planning on marrying my fiance who is on F1 visa right now. I am a resident of North Carolina, but my parents live in NY and she is currently living with them. So I was planning on getting my registered marriage at a courthouse in NY and then file all the papers from NC. Would that be OK or should we do our courthouse marriage in NC.

Also I looked over the paperwork, and it looks pretty simple. Would you recommend getting a lawyer or should I just do the whole thing on my own.

Also how long does it take to get the interview/green card. We are planning on going to India in December for our Reception with her Family and it would be nice if the process was complete. One lawyer suggested that it takes about 6-8 months to get everything done and we don't need to apply for advance parole.

I doubt that you need a lawyer. You can check processing times here - but note that they're average and some cases take longer.

    Thanks for the reply.

Do you think that its going to cause any issue about me marrying in NY and filling papers out of NC.

USCIS doesn't care where you get married.
