Time Clocks
My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Colorado
Hello, I recently went to a payroll seminar and they said that for my record keeping my non-exempt and exempt employees were required to record and track hours. Is this really true for a professional corporation in the State of Colorado? I know if they work over-time they need to turn that in to me but for regular 40 hour work weeks do I really need to keep track of every hour/every day/every week? They said if I didn't have a form signed by the employee that I could be fined if audited. If anyone knows about this please help! Thank you in advance!

Re: Time Clocks
For non-exempt employees, yes, well established, black letter Federal law that you cannot avoid specifies that you must keep track of each and every hour worked. It does not have to be by time clock but it has to be done by some method and it has to be done accurately. There is NO getting out of this one.
Federal law does not require that you keep track of exempt hours worked, though I have heard rumors that one or two states require it. To my knowledge CO is not one of them. Mlane?
Although it is not required for exempt employees, neither is it prohibited and there are some good and valid reasons for doing so.
