My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin
So here is my predicament:
I'm 18 and got caught shoplifting at a local Shopko store.:wallbang: I had 3 sweaters concealed in my purse and i had gotten out of the door when a manager and loss prevention person came running outside and asked me to come back inside. i cooperated and when i was in the office, they asked me if this was my first time shoplifting. i was honest with them and said no. I told them the things i have taken in the past. They told me to try to remember very hard because if they found anything else on the cameras, i could be charged w/ a thousand dollar fine PLUS restitutions PLUS my fine. Can they really do that?? i told them everything and they made a list which came out to roughly $90. Then they made me write and sign an apology note to Shopko. I work in a Payless, coincedentally located in a Shopko, but i was not on duty and at a different location. The manager asked for my managers phone number and called her when the police came. Now, i completely understand why they did that, but legally, can they because Payless is NOT a legal part of shopko and i could be transferred to an actual payless store NOT located in a shopko. Anyways, when the police got there, they wrote me a citation and told me i had a mandatory court date. The manager then came back in and told me that my manager would be contacting me. Later on in the evening, i got texts from my co workers asking me why i wasn't working at payless anymore. I waited for my manager to call me, but she never did. I found out from my co worker that I wasn't supposed to come in for my shift because i was fired. Morally i understand why i was fired but LEGALLY, can i be fired? AND if not, could i sue the manager at shopko for slandering my name etc.? I talked to a co worker, who also shoplifted from shopko a couple years ago if she had to go to court and she told me she didnt. Why did i get a mandatory court date? I am scared to death of what is going to happen at my court hearing? Can anyone tell me about what is going to happen so i won't be so scared?
