Can a Child Have a Hyphenated Last Name
My question involves name change laws in the State of: Georgia
I was married to my daughter's father and she has his last name. She is also under 10 years of age. I am now remarried and my new husband wants her to have his last name too. Can her last name be hypenated with both last names? and if so how to get this started and hom do I contact? :wallbang:

yes, it can be done.
How do you get it started and who do you contact?
call the father and ask him if it is ok.

i doubt he will agree. Is there another way?

If he doesn't agree (and he shouldn't), it's likely NOT going to happen.

why do you feel you have a right to change your ex's daughters name without his approval? It is as much his child as it is yours and she is nothing, legally, to your husband.
Re: Can a Child Have a Hypenated Last Name
Because:
1. She'll have insecurity issues
2. She won't feel quite like part of the family
3. Her new husband is a much better father than her ex
4. Everyone in the household should have the same last name
Regardless of the circumstances, the chances of a subsequent marriage failing is much higher, then your daughter has the name of some man who has absolutely no legal obligation to her when you get divorced. What happens on marriage number 3? You then petition to have her name changed once more?
