Paternity of a 17 Year Old in New Mexico
My question involves child support in the State of: New Mexico

Hello I am curious I was just informed that I have a 17 year old and his mother says that she is going to get child support. I am not on the birth certificate and he has her last name in fact I am not any part of his life until now when she says that I am going to have to pay her back pay. Will I have to pay her back pay even past the age of 18 he has already dropped out of school so could you please give me some advice?:wallbang: I am worried about having to pay back all this money she says I am going to have to owe

    Was paternity ever legally established?

She has until the child is 21 to pursue establishment of legal paternity and child support. She won't get 17 years of arrearages, but if paternity is legally established, she may get a few.

Consult a lawyer in your area.
