Hi Aaron--help please regarding shoplifting
Aaron..
I was caught for shoplifting items in Michigan worth about $ 200-225.
I was arrested and released on bond the same night for which i had pay $ 250.
This is my first criminal offense. I am on a work visa in United States. I have charged with Retail Fraud -2 degree.
I have hired a criminal defense and immgration attorney to represent me in court.
The attorney has asssured that I will not going to jail.
Please let me know based on previous experience and knowledge.. if I will be deported.
Should I pleade guilty on nor guily? I do not have anything to defend against the my not guilty plea?
I am reprenting for what I did, please let me know what should I do and how can i avoid this offense from deportation, affecting my visa status and also preventing any criminal record.
Shoplifting and Immigration
I know absolutely nothing about your immigration situation, but assuming this is the 93 day misdemeanor charge it is unlikely that you would be actively sought out and deported. It would be more likely to come up as an issue the next time you apply for a visa, change in immigration status, or possibly the next time you try to enter the U.S.
You may wish to discuss the specifics of your situation with an immigration lawyer.
