Adult Child of Evader Seeks Enforcement of Law
My question involves child support in the State of: Texas

    :wallbang:

I have been researching something for someone I know. A 20 year old child of a support evader would like to have his father's evasion consequenced. There seems to be no recourse for him other than getting a lawyer and suing him. . . Is this correct? I would think that there are criminal consequences for child support evasion in Texas. However, when i called the Attorney General's office, they told me that his mother would have to file a huge amount of paperwork and jump through flaming hoops to get anything done. She's terrified of the man because of his abusive tendencies and WILL NOT pursue it. He's a true piece of work and has begun harassing his family again. It's pathetic that there doesn't seem to be any enforcement of the law beyond relying on the mother to do something. Many mothers from abusive marriages won't do that. What are his options? He doesn't have any means financially, but he wants to do something to seek some sort of justice in this matter.

    He doesn't have any.

The AG's office is correct - his mother would have to take action, as she is the one owed the money.

so there's no review of obligations and standing, no criminal penalties, and no recourse?!

The AG's office said he could hire a lawyer. .. but we come against the financial means issue again. yay.

There is. As you were told before, it's for his mother. She is the one to whom the money is owed, she is the one who must pursue it.
