Officer Stated Aircraft Clocked My Speed
My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Washington

I was traveling east on I-90 through Ellensburg, WA. At the intersection of I-90 and I-82, five WSP cars had vehicles pulled over. I was behind a milk truck with my cruise control set at 72 going with the flow of traffic. The truck and I moved over to the left lane and slowed down considerably (around 40). As I passed the last WSP car, he had just finished writing a ticket for another driver, and I saw the officer look at my license plates and turn on his lights. I immediately pulled over.

The officer came to the passenger side of the car and spoke to my wife and I. He stated that they were conducting a license and registration check. We handed over the documents and he said he would return shortly.

The officer returned within a few minutes and stated that an aircraft clocked us travelling 85 in a 70. I politely protested by stating that I had not been speeding and in fact had been using cruise control throughout our trip. He then handed over our documents with a ticket and said that is why he only wrote the ticket for 80 in a 70. He then said have a nice day and walked away.

I'm shocked by this experience and feel very violated. I have not had a ticket in over 7 years. Anyone with some advice? Should I hire an attorney or can I handle this myself? Is it common practice for Officers of the State of Washington to misrepresent themselves and the law? I've never been a witness to anything of this nature. Thanks ahead of time for any positive advice.

File a Discovery Request. See if you get sworn statements from BOTH officers. If not, you can probably get a dismissal. If you need a form, PM me with your email address and I'll send you one you can adapt.
