    Shoplifting but No Criminal Charges
My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA
    Hello,
My visa is on hold and i have been detained in India, and i have been asked to provide a disposition for the theft charges imposed on me. The incident occured 8 yrs back in CA Woodland Hills area, i was detained for a petty theft charges,my fingerprints are taken in the police centre, but i was not put behind the bars. I was asked to go to a court where i went, and after spending couple of hours i was told, there was no case filed against me, there were no charges. But i was not given any paper. Now, i have travelled USA in between, a couple of times but there was no problem on this, but this time they are asking for a proof /disposition. Unfortunately we do not have any record of the case number, file number, court number/location or name, date of occurence etc. The LAPD is asking for fingerprinting and there is no place where it can be done here in kolkata, India. I am getting No Records letter, from LA Superior Court ,is that sufficient for getting my USA Visa???

You're in a modern city with 15 million people, and nobody knows how to take fingerprints?

Around here, we go to a police station and say, "I would like a set of fingerprints for a background check". They then take a set, sometimes for free and sometimes for a modest fee, and give you the cards to send to the people who need them. Have you tried that?

What is sufficient for your visa is whatever the State Department tells you is sufficient. If you want to see if the documentation you have acquired to date is sufficient, apply for your visa and see if they accept or reject the application.

Thank you Sir, for the fast reply, yes you are right, and I am amazed too. In India its that bad, to get any electronically fingerprinting, is out of question!!!Well, do you think, my case i mean the court of No records letter which is based on my name and birthdate search has any chance of acceptance??? Though they asked for the disposition of theft charges...

Any help will be graetly appeciated...
