Pickpocketed at School

My question involves criminal law for the state of: are first of all my ipod got pickpocketed from my backpack at school and at the exact moment i couldn't pinpoint the guy but now ( 8 days later ) i can and have a witness then i saw him trying to do the same to another person. i would like to know what could happen to him if i proved he was guilty? is there anything i can get back in case he already sold it ? and can he sue me back if he can prove himself "innocent" ? also do i have to be involved into all of this legal process or can the school do it ? thanks so much !

Did you report your iPod stolen? If not, do so. You can inform the police of the identity of your suspect.

It would certainly help if you had the serial number of your ipod.

I think there is a way within iTunes to get that number.

Why can you pinpoint the person eight days later when you couldn't immediately?

Why are you worried about him being proven innocent?

Unless you KNOW without a doubt, you have no right to accuse someone of theft.

And yes, if you ruin an innocent person's reputation, you can be held liable.
