How Do I Change My Son's Name to Mine
My question involves name change laws in the State of: California

When my son was born, I gave him his father's last name instead of my own. The father has absolutely no desire to ever know our son. His name (the father) is not on the birth certificate since he was not present, but I have since filed for child support. As far as I know (from talking on the phone to people at the Child Support office), he has not denied paternity and has been filling out all necessary paper work. In other words, he's not denying that he is the father.

I now want to change my son's name, and I know the father won't care in the slightest. Can I do this? What do I need to do, and what is the process exactly? (What can I expect?)

First you have to have Dad's permission. Then you locate the forms for him to sign and the forms to file for a name change.
