Sponsoring J2 Visa for My 18 Year Old Son
hey, I entered US on a J1 visa. My visa has expired, but i am maintaining legal status. I would like to sponsor J2 visa for my son who is completing 18 in May 09. Will his visa be denied because my visa has expired. I would appreciate if somebody can answer this question for me. thanks

Your posting is a little cofusing because it does not provide enough information to give you a short answer.

A J2 requires a J1 sponsor. If you are no longer in J1 status, you cannot sponsor any dependent J2.

Remember there are 2 issues that are often confused visa and I-94.

    Visa allows entry.
    I-94 allows legal stay.

If your J1 I-94 has not expired but your J1 visa has expired (and you are not using some other EAD like for a green card or L2 which superceeds your J1), you may file for his J2.
