Petty Theft: How Do I Clear It
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Nevada

Ok 6 days after my 18th birthday in February 2008, I stole a $17.99 bottle of whiskey from a grocery store in Sparks, Nevada. I was caught and taken to the security office. I forgot my ID at home (I live in California) and they told me that they don't run California id's in Nevada. so since i didn't have identification i couldn't just get a ticket and had to be taken to jail. I spent 4 days in jail until arraignment and then i was O.R.'d after arraignment. I had to go back to court about 2 weeks later and was sentenced time served and a $205.00 suspended fine for a year. (until March 2009).

I tried to sign up at a community college in Sacramento and was denied because i have a petty theft charge on my record. I can only be accepted if i got it dismissed in court.

how do i go about doing this?

The answer seems to be, first you wait until March, 2011, then you petition for an expungement in Nevada. I suggest talking to a Nevada lawyer to see if you can find a way to expedite the process, or have the court revisit your conviction.
