Where to Start
My question involves divorce in the State of: Pennsylvania
Jumping right in - I left my husband 9 years ago and have had vitually no contact with him in the last 8 or so. I moved to PA 5 1/2 years ago and he still lives in another state. I NEED to get a divorce. I attempted years ago - once before I moved out and once soon after, but he was uncooperative when it came to filling the paperwork out. I've recently tried to contact him through email (he would screen and not pick up if I called) about finally getting a divorce, but all I got back was a 12 paragraph reply basically stating that he didn't even bother to open my email (he's passive-aggressive to the extreme:wallbang:). I can't afford a lawyer and was hoping to file this myself. There are no children involved and seeing as how we haven't been in contact for 8 years, we don't own any joint property.
Where do I begin? How do I handle this without a lawyer when my ex uses his passive-aggressive ways to refuse to even acknowledge my attempts to communicate? How do I do this when he lives in another state? I don't even have anything with his SS# on it. Lord knows he won't give it to me. Help!

Re: Where to Start
You go to your local county clerks office and ask for the paperwork. You complete it, pay the fee and file it, and serve him (via certified/return receipt mail) with your complaint. The only thing you need is his last known address
The courts will then schedule a hearing, you show and present your case, and it's done and over with. You do not need his permission or acknowledgement in order to proceed or be granted a divorce. With no children or joint property, it's really as simple as that.

Re: Where to Start
You will need a copy of your marriage certificate to attach to the Complaint. You will not need Husband's cooperation. Your grounds for divorce will be under Section 3301(d) of the Divorce Code (two-year separation) and you should complete the Affidavit under that code and serve with the Complaint. If husband doesn't object, you could be divorced in approx. 90 days.
