Shoplifting at Kohls in Maryland

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland

I was caught shoplifting in Kohls, my first time, I know very bad idea. I was getting in my car when approach my store managers. I was taken in the back room, where items were all taken back. picture was taken, i was told banned from store. I signed 2 papers, one stating i could not come back to any store, the other one I think stated and I can not remember exactly what it said but tinks it stated they could prosecute if i do not pay or can they? the police were called but i was not arrested. 2 items found tags for but i did not take them, they searched my car and di dnot find, i was very cooperative with them the whole time. i never received a copy also of the papers i signed? what will happen now? i am so upset, will i have to go to court?

You will receive a civil demand. Pay it.

The store has a year to file charges.

The fine will be a couple of hundred dollars. Admitting to the demand was the second paper you signed in all likelihood.

The police may have been brought in on the off chance you had more than you stole.

if i pay the fine, can they still press charges? if so, how will i know if they will/ should i just pay the fine and pray?
