Shoplifting First Time Charges
Helloooo
I've been so worried lately i can't stand it. Just earlier today i was at Urban Outfitters with my little brother. We were messing around and he was going to buy a shirt. We had gone to Forever 21 and he had gotten the same type of shirt that was 50 dollars cheaper.
I had the forever 21 bag with me and i took out the shirt to compare with the one he wanted to buy. When i finally convinced him it wasn't worth it, i put the shirt back into the bag.
I had a necklace(24$) in my hand that i had forgotten about and i guess that went into the bag. i had no idea too.
As we walked out, the alarm beeped and they took me to a room where a girl filed a report about me. i didnt have my social security number, no ID and all she had was my number and address. my mom came to pick me up, but she didnt sign anything. im still a minor in california.
i have shoplifted before but those times were desperate. but this time, i didn't even want the necklace, and i didnt even try to steal it. besides that, i had 200 dollars on me. im really worried..
my questions are:
1. Will this be on my record? Will my school be notified and could i still get a job and a liscense?
2. Is it possible that they will only send me a fine and not a court date?
3. My little brother was caught at target before, will that be linked to this crime?
4. There was no motive behind it, it was truly an accident. will it be overlooked?
5. What happens if i plead guilty? not guilty?
6. Could they use video surveillance prove me innocent or guilty?
7. Could i still go to Urban Outfitters in other cities?
8. If i have to attend court, am i allowed to speak up? when can i?
9. I heard you get cutoff for things under 25$ if you obeyed them. does that still apply today?
10. If i plead guilty, will that make things alot easier?
please, any help would be great! :(

Re: Shoplifting First Time Charges
Were the police involved and were you cited? If so, you need an attorney to represent you. If not, you will received a demand letter from the store. Pay it on time, and in full, to avoid any charges being filed by the store.
And a bit of friendly advise - STOP stealing  Your luck is going to run out and you'll find this haunting you for life! Besides, we consumers don't like paying higher prices to compensate for what merchandise shoplifters take.
Re: Shoplifting First Time Charges
nope nothing. just number and address. ive learned my lesson, ill never steal again even if it kills me :o
but, i was wondering, the girl filling out my file spelled tourma- and circle wrong. i tried correcting her but she ignored me.
what might happen if the letter gets to the wrong address?
ANDDD, i have searched around! nothing specific about cutoff's, or about pleading guilty or not guilty
