Are you legally in the U.S.? (If not, did you at least enter the U.S. legally?)

I have the same situation.I entered The U.S. legally, but my visa expired. I have a boyfriend, who has Green Card(we are together for 5 years). We want to get married too.Is it better to do that when he becomes a citizen or it doesn't matter.

It matters a lot. He can't sponsor you until he is a citizen. Be careful about leaving the country - your overstay could result in a very long period of exclusion if you try to return. You may wish to consult an immigration lawyer about how you might re-establish lawful status.
