Walmart Shoplifting Caught But Question
My question involves criminal law for the state of: FL
Ok one day i was with my friends and i stole an item that was maybe $20 or so and as we were walking out i was approached by a big guy and a small guy and they told me to follow them right when we walked in they just asked for it, so without even trying to lie i gave it to them and they were being nice , so then they take my information such as name, address, drivers license # and such...
Well then they told me that they weren't pressing charges and they are just going to call to police to make sure i didn't have any warrants, so the cop comes runs my file (w/e they call it) and I'm clean so they let me leave but he told me that i may or may not receive a fine from Wal-Mart for $200 or so. Also said I am not allowed in Wal-Mart Or Sams Club Stores for 2 Years.
If i receive a fine in the mail do i have to pay it, they said that they weren't pressing charges. (If i don't what can happen?)
If i do pay it would i be allowed in Wal-Mart or Sams again?
im only 18 yrs old also
Re: Walmart Shoplifting Caught But Question
You are very lucky that Walmart decided not to press criminal charges.

Yes you do. If you don't the fine is likely to triple if you don't pay, they will take you to civil court (different from criminal court) and they will likely to get a judgement on you.

See above.

They are cutting you a break. They have until the statue of limitations runs out to charge you (not sure what it is in FL, 1 or 2 yrs). If you don't pay the civil fine, they may get PO'ed and decide to charge you criminally as well.

That would be a BIG FAT NO! Pay it or not and they catch you and you will be charged with trespassing.

Your old enough to know its wrong to steal! Don't do it again and consider yourself lucky that they didn't press charges against you. You would be paying for attorney fees, court costs, and praying that your area offers diversion (likely probation fees/fines, community service) so you start your adult life out without a criminal record.
