    New California Child Support Law
My question involves child support in the State of: CALIFORNIA

Is it true that there is a new law that just went into effect (Jan 2009) in the state of california that would elminate "back" child support for anyone who owes any? Any info would be appreciated.

    No, it isn't true.

Whoever told you that is engaging in some ill-placed wishful thinking.

There is a CA poster here who can answer with more info.

I'm guessing that you are referring to a law that CA has that allows for arrears to be modified or forgiven IF both parties and the court agrees. I think it's called COAP, or something similar. I'll send a PM to the CA poster about it.

No such a beast. COAP (Compromise of Arrears) is not new, it's been around for a long time and not everyone qualifies. There are very specific things one looks for to see if you qualify. Other than that, if arrearages are owed, they are still owed even if it's a new year.
