Is College Tuition Debt the Same as a Student Loan
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Oregon
(I am not sure whether to post this question here, but it seems the most fitting at this time.)
I have been trying to figure out how to handle a collections agency in regards to an old debt and I have been reading conflicting articles and forum posts regarding tuition for a public college...
Is debt for college tuition (not a signed loan) treated the same as a non-dischargeable student loan?
I have read several articles that say that public school tuition debt can be (or is) treated as a student loan because tax payers cover the costs. I then read another article that said that the previous can be true, if you signed a promissory note, but is not treated as so if there was no note or papers signed, or cash advancement made to you by the college.
Re: Is College Tuition Debt the Same as a Student Loan
College tuition debts, simply in the form of unpaid tuition bills, are not the same as student loans.

Thank you very much for your reply Mr. KnowItAll
I had thought that was the case, but I have been repeatedly told by someone else that any debt to a public school is the same as a loan and is non-dischargeable.
I have been reading a lot of previous court cases today though, and it seems that in general terms a tuition debt is not a loan, but it can be construed as a loan in some cases, depending on admission contracts, etc.
Thankfully I think my debt falls under the unpaid tuition category.
