Shoplifting in Georgia

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia

Okay, yesterday, I did something entirely opposite of my general character: I stole a jacket from an expensive department store, which I did not know, until now, that it was 1000 dollars. I've been going through hell in my mind, and I feel so horrible about it. I did not get caught in the store, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they might have video camera'd my license plate number in the parking lot. Also, I believe they suspected me in the store as well. Tomorrow, I'm planning on taking the stolen jacket and returning it back to the store, and then leaving an "I'm sorry" note on it, and then leaving. Would the store still press charges? I really do not want jail time, even though I know that if I do get caught, it would be grand theft :( because I'm 20 years old.

I understand what I did was horribly wrong and stupid and rash, but I just need to know that what I'm planning to do tomorrow is a good idea? And if there is a pretty good chance the store would actually go after me or get the police to arrest me in my home?

If you think you can get the coat back on the rack without getting stopped by loss prevention, I suggest skipping the note. You might also be able to walk in, leave it at a register or customer service desk, and walk out without anybody really noticing you. (I'm assuming the tags are still on.)

I can say that most of the time, if the offender is not caught at the time they steal, prosecution is unlikely. I can't promise you what will happen if you return to the store, and I don't know if they had enough information to try to prosecute you despite your successful departure from the premises with the coat.
