Age of Consent in Georgia

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida/Georgia.

My best friend Denise is 21 was seeing a girl who is 17. As far as I know nothing sexual has happened between them but she's worried her girlfriends parents may try and press charges. Will she go to jail?

Why Florida/Georgia? Which state does this happen in? What state does the minor live in? Has the minor ever crossed state lines to be with Denise?

Since my crystal ball is out being recalibrated I can't say, but tell Denise to stay away from underage girls who don't have parental permission to see her and she won't have to worry about it.

That last question cyjeff asks is very important. FYI the age o consent in FL is 18 and 16 in GA however the whole crossing state lines put this in whole new catagory

Well the minor lives in Florida. Nothing has happened with them but would the court have anything to stand on?

There much more to this. Nothing meaning what? Has the minor crossed state lines to be with this other person without parents consent or knowledge? Have they fondled, groped, dry humped, sent sexual messages, calls, emails, etc etc. The different state issues can place this under Federal law and far more serious

That doesnt change things that much. Listen there is no simple answer other than the adult should stay arm distance from minor and avoid any sexual communication no matter how innocent they think it is

Where does the minor live? Where does the adult live? What do the minor's parents feel about the relationship?

Crossing state lines with a minor, even a minor coming over on their own to visit could get someone in huge trouble. I stay away from situations like this if I was your "friend". Believe federal laws kick in when crossing state lines with a minor to skirt either parties home state age of consent laws. Why most laws exempt legal marriage from sex laws in this area. Even picking them up from work, could turn into a skirting age of consent issue.
