Shoplifting Charges at Kohl's in Illinois

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois
I was given a ticket tonight for shoplifting - a very stupid move. The total was $64. I was not fingerprinted or taken to jail. I got a ticket and need to pay $100. Can I keep this off my permanent record. It is my first offense - my record is otherwise clean.

I did already contact a lawyer and he told me that 99+% he can keep this off my record since it is my first offense. I am embarassed, humiliated and just plain upset with myself. I have never done anything like this and I am actually glad it happened, because now I think it will snap my head back into place.
Has your lawyer told you it can stay off your record? Mine said he can either get me into a diversion program or reduce the charge to disorderly conduct, which does not go on your record. My work does background checks and if this shows up I will lose my job. What a mess I made.

Thank you. I am in Bloomingdale and I am meeting with my lawyer Monday. I don't have a court date yet and am still very nervous, even though he told me that I shouldn't be. I'll update after Monday as well.
