My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Colorado
I am a sixteen year old. I currently attend high school and have no job. I also live with my mom. My parents are divorced and have joint custody. I have been talking about getting emancipated but from what I can understand, you're only allowed to be emancipated if you've been living on your own with no help for three months. I've discussed it with my mom and she has said if I can find a place and get a job she would let me move out and agree to emancipate me after the three months was up. However, I'm worried about my father. Because he has legal joint custody of me, does he have a say in what happens? I know he would disagree to me living on my own and the only way I could would be if I was emancipated. But, my mom has the majority of the custody. (I hope I'm making sense. In the agreement, he is allowed to get us every other weekend and during the summers. Does the way time is split up between the two affect anything?) So, I guess my basic question is if my mom agrees to my moving out and emancipation would my dad have any say?
