Canadian Citizen with a Bench Warrant in Michigan
A couple of years back a friend and i travelled to Michigan from Toronto. When we got back a few days later, we got a phone call from a Michigan police officer saying he wanted to speak with us. Seeing as how it is a 4 hour drive, we didn't go and speak with him. We then got a letter in the mail informing us of charges and a court date. The charges were Possession of Stolen Property (Under a certain amount... I believe $100) and malicious destruction of property. For the same reason as stated above, we didn't go to the court date. We were then informed we had bench warrants. I am curious as to the severity of these crimes and punishments, and also if the warrant would be a state warrant or a federal warrant. I am interested in visiting family in Texas and would like to also know if I would be stopped at a New York border, or simply turned away, and also the best way to resolve the situation.

    Thanks you for your help.

    Old Bench Warrant
Contact the Michigan State Police to see if they can find any active warrants.

It is unlikely that a warrant for such a minor charge was entered into the interstate LEIN network, so you probably won't have a problem entering the U.S. through another state; but you never know what's going to show up these days.
