My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: New York

When I was 17, my uncle had me sign a hand-written "document" stating that he gave me an interest-free loan that I would have to pay back. This document was not notarized. He is now suing me for the money plus interest. My question is, since I was under 18 and the document was not notarized or created by an attorney, is it submissible in court?

I would certainly take you to small claims court for it.

Are you honestly trying to say that you shouldn't have to pay back your uncle because he was stupid enough to treat you like a responsible kid?

it wasn't a loan...he had given me the money and threatened me after the fact!

Yes, it is "submissible" in court. Whether or not it is "permissible" in court is a different story and up to the judge.

The judge could decide that the document isn't binding in terms of interest, but demand that you return the money to your uncle immediately.

If the document didn't represent the truth of the arrangement, you shouldn't have signed it.
