Shoplifting at Ralphs in San Diego
My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA
I am a 21 year old college student who was apprehended by an undercover LP person at ralphs in san diego. i had roughly $40 worth of merchandise.
There was no involvement of the police. He filled out a report and said I would be getting a letter in the mail about whats going to happen. He said that i would be fined around $300-$500 but not have to go to court.
Is it true that I'll be fined that much? What else can I expect to happen?

It's called a Civil Demand for restitution, and legal. Pay it
