Speeding Ticket Procedures in Washington State
My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Washington

So last Saturday I received a speeding ticket when I was heading to Spokane. It had just turned dark with no sunset and with no lights on eastern WA highways it was pretty dark. I was about to hit a long grade so I sped up from like 62 to 70. Now I have driven this road like 2 times before so I dint know the exact speed limit, but I assumed it was 65 as all other highways in WA are 65 (to my knowledge). I had been looking for a speed limit sign forever, in 30 minutes of driving I had not seen one. anywho I got pulled over at the base of the beginning of the hill and given a ticket for going 65+ in a 60 ($93.00). He asked my how fast I was going and I said 70 because I didnt know the limit, he said because I was honest he would give me a break and told me I was doing 71. So instead of 10+ over its only 5. So now what

I am not sure what to do know. I am pretty ignorant in this area and have been trying to read and get a hold of the clerk, but I call the number and all it does is tell me their hours and the address, no person. I have had one other ticket in summer of 2006 and I am pretty sure I had it deferred (but if I remember right I didn't have to pay the fee, just the ticket. in the process of getting ahold of the DMV to find out 100% sure) SO it has been over a year so if I am not mistaken that ticket is gone and will not be put back on my record. However it has not been seven years so I cant defer this one. So what should I do now. I have been doing a little research and from what I read its a good idea to contest it. Got info from this site (http://speedinginseattle.com/faq.htm...o_about_ticket). Can any of you give me some advise. I would like this not to cause my insurance to go up. I am a male in early 20's and since I am at school do not have insurance now, but its pretty spendy for me because of my age and sex. So any advise please. Also I will check back often if you need any more information. I speed up before hills often because the car I normally drive is a Samurai. if you know what that is you would understand.

There's no secret way to beat valid tickets, or to avoid an insurance increase after you get a ticket. You can try to contest the ticket and hope that somebody makes a procedural error or, if you subpoena the officer, that the officer doesn't appear in court, but generally speaking you can count on getting convicted.

You "do not have insurance now" meaning what? I hope that means your car is parked somewhere until you again have insurance. Some insurance companies, though will excuse a single ticket from somebody who is otherwise classified as a "safe driver", but all bets are off if you let your coverage lapse.

Sorry for the late response and thanks for responding.

I am not really looking for a secret way. I was speeding and there is no way around that, just curious of what the advised next step would be. Also I am in college so I do not have a car and do not have insurance. I was driving my girlfriends vehicle that is insured. So no problems there.

So would advise be just to pay the ticket, or at least try and contest it?
