I go to school in Berkeley. This weekend I was in Santa Barbara for athletics and was given a ticket for an MIP. I was leaving a house and put my beer down outside as I walked out the door. I don't drink, but at parties I will carry an open beer so people dont try to pressure me into drinking. By chance there was a cop right outside on the sidewalk, he came up picked up the beer and asked if it was mine, I told him it was mine, and explained that I knew it looked bad but I hadnt been drinking. He said he still had to give me an MIP but that he would write up the ticket for an unopened beer. I completely understand why I got a ticket, it was stupid of me, but now that it has happened, what is my best course of action? Will I be able to go to court in Berkeley or will I have to go back to Santa Barbara? Will I loose my license? Will this be permanent on my record? What consequences will I likely face? Thanks in advance.

25662 B&P was the code. The officer gave mentioned paying my fee online or by phone but dealing with the other consequences in Berkeley. Unfortunately, I was a little shaken by the incident, so I didn't ask any further questions.... does anyone know what he was referring to? He underlined a number to call after 10 days on the ticket.
