    Joint legal and physical custody
Hi I live in michigan and I was wondering about the Joint legal and physical laws. My daughter is three months old and her father wants both joint legal and physical custody of her. We were never married or even dated. I want to have sole legal and physical custody of her. I just recently got served and got served again with a request for hearing motion because I wanted to move out of state. We can't agree on anything jointly. He stated to the court that he has a two bedroom apartment but failed to mention he lives with a male roomate. He pays no child support or askes about her well being as far as doctors appointments, doctor visits or anything else except how she is doing. He does buy her diapers about every three weeks. He does not know anything about her. When he visits he stays for approx 15 to 45 min. I don't have money for a lawyer and he already has a lawyer. We hardly know each other so how would that even work out. I need to know what can I do to try and prevent joint custody.

    Custody Litigation
You need to find a way to retain a lawyer, or get assistance from legal aid or a law school clinic. (Review these resources from the Michigan State Bar, and these from the ABA.) I've seen way too many people get steamrolled in custody proceedings, where the other side is represented and they are not.
