Caught Speeding by a Motorcycle Cop
My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Washington. I was driving to work in Monroe and as I approached the top of a hill I was being tailgated by a SUV. I was probably going over the speed limit by no more than 5 MPH, or 60 in a 55 due to the fact this guy was on my bumper. As I approached the crest of the hill a motorcycle officer was approaching from the opposite direction. He motioned for us (me and the car on my bumper) to pull over as he passed us. He turned around and gave both of us tickets. He said we both were going 66/67 and wrote the ticket for "60+" The other driver got into what appeared like an argument with the officer and got his ticket and went on his way. The officer came to my car and gave me the ticket and I brought to his attention that the car behind me was riding my bumper he said "I noticed he was really close to you but I did not get a chance to talk to him about that"

    1) Can the officer (on a motorcycle) accurately clock the both of us from the opposite direction when the two cars were so close and all three in motion?
    2) I have a spotless record (never pulled over before) and would like to keep it that way. What is the best course of action to make sure this does not make it on my record?
    3) Does he need to prove the speed for each car or can he assume we were both going 66/67?
    4) Does the fact he was tailgating (which the officer admitted) provide an out? I was probably going over 55 but no where close to 66/67.

Any advice would be much appreicated.

    Thanks,

If he has the equipment to clock you, he can clock you. If two cars are going the same speed, they're going the same speed.

    Consider seeking mitigation.

I have seen as many as four pulled over at one time. What you describe is not unusual.
