Working with SSN During Status Change Period from J1 to F1?
Hi. I came to US with J1 visa. One month ago I sent my papers

(including I-20) to immigration office and applied for status change. I

guess they are investigating me these days and deciding whether to

change my status. Because, what I heard is that, this period took 2-3

months, in some cases even more. Here is my question: In this

period, if I use my SSN to work in a good job, does it affect the

decision of immigration office about my status change? I mean, might

they not change my status because I work with my SSN? Can they

see that I am working, through my SSN? Thanks in advance for the

    answers?

You mean, what happens if you work illegally while waiting for a change of status? Quite obviously, you can end up getting yourself booted out of the country.
