Filling Out I-485 - Using Maiden or Married Name
I entered the US with a K1 fiance visa, and just recently got married. We are in the process of applying for registering permanent residence and adjustment of status. I need to know which name to write on the forms: I-485, I-765 and other documents, maiden or married name?

Also, in the Philippines our common practice is for a woman to make her father's surname her middle name after getting married. E.g. (Given name - Middle/Mother's maiden name - Father's surname) Gloria Macaraeg Macapagal will become (Given name - Father's surname - Husband's surname) Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Can I do the same here in the US should the forms require my married name? I wasn't sure because I heard from someone that here in the US you have to go through a legal process before you can change your middle name. I prefer to use my Father's surname as my middle name.

    Thanks in advance.

It's my understanding that you may use your married name, since you've already married.

With respect to your name, simply sign your name as YourFirstName YourMaidenName YourMarriedName. You do not need to formally drop your mother's name.
