What Happens After a First Shoplifting Offense in Florida
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida
Ok, so my block head sister got in trouble a few days ago in FLA for shoplifting from a J.C. Penny. Its was a $16 ring that she took on a bet (obviously she lost). This is her first offense and she is freaking out because she has petty much never done anything wrong in her life. She's on scholarship and she works at her school.
My question is:
1. what can she expect?
2. will the school and work be informed?
3. is there a diversion program or something that she can get into b/c this is her first offense?
4. what is the average cost of this kind of thing? I'm gonna help her out but money is tight.
Any insight into this problem would be helpful.
Re: My Sisters 1st Shop Lifting Offense in FLA
My question is:
1. what can she expect?
Fines less than $500.00 community service, probation and unrelated to court Civil Demand
2. will the school and work be informed?
Not likely but since court dockets can be viewed by anyone they could find out. Not to mention anyone she knows who tells
3. is there a diversion program or something that she can get into b/c this is her first offense?
Possibly have her ask her Attorney
4. what is the average cost of this kind of thing? I'm gonna help her out but money is tight.
See first answer and Civil Demand should be less than $500.00 as well probably a couple hundred
