Retail Theft in Pennsylvania - First Time
My question involves criminal law for the state of: PA
Couple of days back, I got caught and sent to the police station for retail theft. This would be the *first time ever* anything would get on my record - they (cops) explained it to me as summary offense which would nonetheless remain forever. This is very, very troubling.
My Q is
1) Is there any way I can meet with the store now to see if they could withdraw or drop this charge so it would not be on my record (i know this sounds absurd but it may still be worth a try)
2) What are the chances of me being able to do a diversion program (ARD in PA) and what is the best way I can approach this?
I know I should call a lawyer for expert advice but I also wanted to get some fron this forum where many people have excellent thoughts/experiences/input

WAY not a good idea, and your likely to end up in more trouble.

Pretty good if it's available in your area. Get a lawyer, a local one familiar with the local judges and programs.

Thanks a lot Gigirle. It's probably a familiar Q but one that I have not found a convincing answer anyway: In terms of the record of 'criminal arrest' on my background, would it show up on ANY background check - e.g. (1) a background check that includes my SSN (2) A check done by my drivers license e.g. when being pulled over by a traffic cop
Also, if this is expunged after my ARD program, will it be completely cleared (physically and legally) or will there be remanants visible to select people doing a background check on me. And if so, which people?

Expungement just means the record is taken from public view, law enforcement, and government agencies can still see it
If the retailer is part of the National Retailer Database your name
and particulars will be entered. This will have an effect on any
employment you explore in the retail field
