Im Trying to Help My Little Sister Get Emancipated
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Tennessee.
Ok Im almost 20 My mom kicked me out when I was 15, my brother at 16, and my youngest brother at 13. Our parents are divorced, but we have 1 more sister still living with my mother. I and 1 of my younger brothers have suffered severe psychological problems due to the way we were treated and then basiclly dumped. My little sister has found a great guy, shes very mature, and they want to get married, and she wants out of our mothers house. My mother wont sign for her to get married. Our parents still have joint custody, our father loves the idea, and is more than happy to sign for her. But Tennessee state law requires all guardians to sign, that would include our mother as well. My sister is 17. Her boyfriend is 17, also. What Im trying to do is figure out how to have her Emancipated, she wants it, but is too scared of our mom to look up any information on the subject. Someone please help!
Re: Im Trying to Help My Little Sister Get Emancipated
Tn doesn't have a statute for Emancipation and if it did wanting to get married would not be a valid reason.
Re: Im Trying to Help My Little Sister Get Emancipated
The only, repeat, the ONLY way this is going to happen is if she has permission from her legal guardian(s). If that means she has to get mom's permission, then she has to get mom's permission. There are no loopholes allowing her to bypass that part of the law.
Emancipation is not an option in TN, and as my friend FlyinHawk says, no state would emancipate her so that she can get married without permission.
Her other option is to wait until she is 18, when she can marry without anyone's permission.
