Why Still in Jail?
My question involves criminal law for the state of: VA:confused: A friend of mine was booked on 10/14 at 1:50am for assault on a family member; simple. No bond. His first appearance in front of the judge left him in jail until his bond hearing on 10/16/08. The charges were "yelling and screaming and then he grab her arm". Why would someone remain in jail for 2 days without bond no something so minor? As of 10/16 12:30, he remains jailed.

Re: Why Still in Jail?
What is the charge? I suspect felony Domestic Violence. Most misdemeanor charges won't land him in jail without a bond. If that's the case, it is definitely not 'so minor' as you stated. Even a misdemeanor charge of DV is serious.
You don't have to physically attack to be charged with DV; yelling, threatening, etc, in many states, is considered DV. He needs an attorney, and quickly.

Re: Why Still in Jail?
The charge is: ASL1315M1. This most confusing to me. He has an attorney but what was relayed back to me was that he contacted the attorney's office but they could not help him until he made payment.??? There was no bond to make payment on. So when he went to the bond hearing this morning, I have no idea what transpired.
