Interstate Runaway
Hi, My parents forced me to move to Virginia and i am pregnant i am 17 and i wont be turning 18 until next year. I want to leave and go to New York were my fiance lives. My parents jumped me the past weekend because i didnt want to talk to them. they called the police and the police said there was nothing they could do. but if i ranaway to New York they would put me in jail. Is this true? and how can i get emancipated without my parents consent?

Re: Interstate Runaway
They wouldn't put you in jail, but you'd either be put in juvie or taken back home. And no, you cannot get emancipated without your parents consent. If you are pregnant, you cannot be emancipated at all.
Emancipation is only very rarely granted, and not ever to teens who have demonstrated so clearly that they need more, not less, supervison. Running away or getting pregnant are both reasons that make it pretty much impossible for a judge to see you as a candidate for emancipation.
