Drug Possession in Michigan and Consequences

My question involves criminal law for the state of: MICHIGAN
Last year I was crossing the Michigan border back from Canada in a friend's car where he was the driver and I was passenger. Apparently, he had marijuana in his car without my knowledge and when we were searched the officers confiscated a small bag thereof and whose quantity I cannot recall. I had no criminal record prior to that date and neither did he so they decided to give him a $500 fine with my name on it. I tirelessly tried to explain to them that I was only getting a ride back to the U.S. but received no sympathy.
I am worried about my record as I will be graduating college in a few months' time and will be obliged to apply for high level jobs and fear being turned down due to that incident. I need legal advice on how I can get my record expunged, if the fine shows on it. Untill now I do not know if it is a conviction, a felony, or a misdemeanor(how can I find out?) I am also willing to press charges against the friend whose marijuana was confiscated. I need your help!
Also, will I be able to cross over to Canada or will I be in need of a waiver?

What, exactly, were you charged with?

I cannot tell from your post whether or not you were charged or even arrested...

I don't know what I was charged with myself. My name came on a ticket (fine) for the amount of $500 for possession. I was crossing the US-CANADA border coming back to Michigan. I stayed at the customs for about 5 hours while they were conducting all sorts of searches. I wasn't arrested I guess but I was seated in their office with no handcuffs or anything of that sort. Also, where can I check on what charges have been entered against me if any? I received no letter to appear in court or any notice indicating that I was on probation.
