Slow down no one here even mouser is saying that will happen. Whether or not it effects your future (I tend to side with cyjeff) is unknown. If you want your future for College, career etc to stay safe find an Attorney. The Attorney can help you find a way to minimize the damage. On a personal note I would not hire somone with your background.

Its also worth noting that Target "may" belong to the retail theft database. This means your name has been inputted into system and any other retailer who is a subscriber will see your theft history

No they will know (if they have access to said database) you were stopped for shoplifting. This is pretty much a guarantee you wont be hired. Keep in mind that only those retailer who subscribe to this database and access it will see this. If Target is a subscriber and if they inputted you into system

Wow. You read between the lines pretty well. Let me help you.

This is not about you or me; this is about the poster and the real world. many times jobs and schools do not ask about convictions of a certain nature or beyond a certain date

Okay. So which jobs, exactly, don't ask about that nasty assault charge?

    Quote:

; therfore, anything outside of their stated scope is none of their business.
    assault is always in scope,

I am a highschool teacher in Los Angeles, by the way, so don't lecture me about education. Plenty of the kids in my school wind up with criminal records. So according to you they loose the right to go to college and move on with their lives??
I didn't say that, Mr. Kotter. Where did I say that he shouldn't get an education.

You took a pretty good leap there. Watch the first step.

    Quote:

Ideally, colleges should not even have the right to ask about convictions. Don't people deserve to move on after they have completed the sentence of the court?
I tell you what. Let's ask the students and faculty of Virginia Tech how they feel about that.

    Quote:

Why should they be punished further, especially for something petty like shoplifting?
Why shouldn't they be? Why should they be treated exactly the same as children that DIDN'T break the rules?

All this teaches children is that there really isn't any accountability because some bleeding heart do gooder will tell them that it really doesn't count.

I have hired and fired dozens of people over the course of my career. I know what to look for in background checks and in resumes.

How many have you hired? How would you feel if that teacher in the next room had a record of assault but he is really sorry?

    Quote:

I've got news for you: there ar a lot of folks with bullshit minor convictions in the profesions. I know of two personally that are very successful and good in their professions. But I guess according to you they should be flipping burgers for the rest of their lives because they stole a bottle of deodorant when they were twenty!
As they say in the theatre, there are no minor crimes, just minor criminals.

I have hired felons from time to time... but they had to show a pattern of regret after their offense.

Our young friend here doesn't have that luxury. He will, in fact, be flipping burgers through high school because no one else will hire him... and maybe not them.

People do not like to hire thieves. And once you have proven yourself to be a thief, there is ALWAYS the chance you will do it again.

    Quote:

It feels good being a keyboard commando, doesn't it?
You seem to think I was talking about his whole life... he asked about immediate jobs... and you are wrong.

if the teacher in the next room had a history of assault many years ago, it would be totally irrelavent to me or to the quality of services he can provide. I would have to ask what the circumstances of the assault were before passing judgment on someone. (assault doesn't automatically make one a criminal . . . just like one shoplifting charge doesn't make one a criminal). there is a world of difference between beating someone during the commision of another crime and, for example, getting in a drunken fight in a club on a Saturday night. If it's the latter case, what right do you have to judge soemone? A formal conviction record does not imediately mean you are a "criminal
