Returning to Home Country - Must I Give Up My Green Card
Iowa
Hi
I will be greatful for all info anyone can give me.
I came in from the uk in aug 2002 of 6 month tourist visa, in october 2002 got married, january 2003 handed in paperwork for green card, march 2004 eventually called for interview and approved, march 2006 conditions removed and new green card.
So now as a family unit we are heading back to england after i have been here 6 yrs, i was wondering what do i do with my green card, i thought i left and just never renewed it, but after reading posts that isnt the case. We are set to leave march 28 2009.
who do i contact or what do i do with my green card?
We have no intent of coming back to the USA to live but just to visit family in the future.
Thanks for any advice
Donna
Re: Returning to Home Country, Giving Up Green Card ?
You can formally abandon your permanent residency, or you can move and let it happen as a matter of law due to your prolonged absence from the U.S.
To formally abandon permanent residency, use form I-407.
